The Revenue Retriever team is based in the UK and works with veterinary practices around the world. We are focused on the challenge of mis-billing, using smart technology to help avoid mistakes and recovering missed revenues.

The business was created by Judy Walker and Charles Auld. Judy is a practising vet and founder of an innovative UK veterinary group. Charles is an experienced CEO and leader in the healthcare sector.

The Revenue Retriever story

Several years ago, Judy Walker was in one of her group’s veterinary practices and happened to glance at a customer invoice on the printer. She could see right away that it involved surgery but there was no hospitalisation fee. This led her to ask the question, how often does this kind of omission happen and how much is it costing the business?

She asked veterinary expert, Nic Shepherd, to review a sample of recent invoices from across her practices and see how many of them were missing key products or services.

What Nic found was startling. In fact, he was so surprised that he reviewed another, much larger sample of invoices before reporting back. Of the invoices that he reviewed, nearly a quarter had some kind of error, with a product or service missing. When he totalled up the value of those missing products and services, it equated to over 10% of the total of all the invoices. In other words, billing errors were wiping more than 10% straight off the bottom line of the business.

In response, Judy initiated a programme of staff training and management interventions, but after several months they had done little to improve the situation. She and her team concluded that while their vets were outstanding in their focus on clinical excellence and the welfare of the animals, they really needed help with the paperwork.

Judy took the results of Nic’s analysis to a software specialist who they knew well. He agreed that he could create an automated system to do that type of analysis, and what’s more, do it in real time to alert the vet while the consultation was still in progress.

After many months of coding and several successful trials in veterinary clinics, Revenue Retriever was born.
